The New 42nd Street Studios is a rehearsal studio located in the heat of it all, this week hosting the heat of the new Dirty Dancing cast going preparing for tour. Located in Midtown New York directly on 42nd Street and Broadway, beside the theatre that revived the 42nd Street musical itself roughly 10 years ago, this spot is the perfect place to warm-up and perfect the routine of this dance-filled musical.
The studio space itself draws both amateur but more so professional dancers to put to use the immaculate facilities and clean, fresh space. It even contains a small theatre for performance opportunity. A unique landscape dear to my heart, I actually was lucky enough to both train and perform at this studio many years ago during the New York City Dance Festival. It’s an experience to witness the fusion from beginning to end of a show and how it can truly come together all in one piece, one place.
And that’s what this cast is working on; perfection to get from rehearsal to show time; from counting in moves outfitted in leotards and ponytails, snacks and shoe bags along the side of the wall, to the stage.
The North American tour itself, Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story on Stage – will begin in a short few weeks; August 26th as their start date, September will be the official opening day and will take place in Washington DC at The National Theatre.
The crowd-pleaser of a high , non-stop show will include the favorite songs “Hungry Eyes,” “Hey Baby,” “Do you Love Me?” and “(I’ve Had) The Time of my Life.” romance, sensation, movement, excitement – it’s all packed into the phenomenal show and it’s coming to a city near you!
